South African Standard for Principalship
The Department of Basic Education has released a draft copy of the South African Standard for Principalship.
This policy defines the role of public school principals, including key aspects of professionalism, image and competencies required of school principals.
In terms of section 29(3)(c) of the Constitution, independent schools are expected to maintain standards not inferior to those at public schools. These standards will be used as a benchmark for independent school principals.
The date for comment on the draft policy has passed, but SAHISA members are welcome to download the document for their own information.
